Experienced eating in the dark today at Dialogue in the Dark, it was a memorable and fun experience. We were led by a visually impaired lady named Pek Ling into the room. She brought each and every one of us to our seats and also served us the food. It was a 3 course meal, Mushroom Soup, Spaghetti with a piece of Chicken and Chocolate Mousse.
Throughout the whole meal, it was quite noisy as some sang the School Song and also shouted out to others a lot. Well, even though it was pitch black and nobody can see anything, we should still behave as a civilized individual. There are people from other schools and by screaming and shouting, this might affect the school’s reputation. Well, there are obviously people who are annoyed, but it was still an enjoyable event.
Being able to understand and feel the visually impaired people made me understand that we should not take things for granted, we may never know when will we lose our eyesight, but we have to take care of them well. I think the visually impaired people are very brave individuals, being able to learn to live like a normal person, and they are actually quite amazing people.
They can actually take pictures as well. So never look down on them, as they are really amazing. In the darkness, everyone did not know how to re act to the situation and could not adapt to the darkness that well and kept bumping into things. But for the visually impaired people, they are the ones who guided us and could walk around in the dark and helped us enjoy our meal. Something really cool is the watch which they used to see the time.
Visually impaired people are trying their best to live a normal life so normal people like us should not waste our life and give up easily. We should all persevere on and be resilient. A quote from a famous visually and hearing impaired lady, Helen Keller, “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.” This shows that we should not judge something based on the looks and what we hear about them, it’s about their character and personality which makes it important.
