"I have no regrets, I have spent my life, so much of it building up this country. There's nothing more that I need to do. At the end of the day, what have I got? A successful Singapore. What have I given up? My life"
For the past few days, Mr Lee was warded in SGH and his condition hasn't been that good - there were even death rumours. However, people from all walks of life still went there to leave good wishes, gifts, hoping that he will get well soon. He was diagnosed with pneumonia since last month and has fought on very hard. It seemed to be better now that he is free from the pain and can finally rest in peace now, with his wife, after all the things he has done for Singapore for his life. He's in a better place now.
My mum was crying while watching the news, and she said "Kids like you don't understand, it's something we have seen from young". As a 90s kid, I probably may not fully understand or experience what Mr Lee has did for Singapore, but we have learnt in our Social Studies lessons about how Singapore became how it is today. I remember that my late grandmother used to look up to Mr Lee a lot, that is because of what he has done for Singapore - his wise planning and his good leadership. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't enjoy what Singapore has today, from a 3rd world country to one of the most developed cities in the world. He has indeed done alot, his vision and his courage shaped how Singapore is today. He literally made Singapore. That dedication to the nation is probably something we will never see again. Although it's a pity he is unable to join the SG50 celebrations, we will all never forget his legacy and remember him in our hearts.
“We won’t see another man like him. To many Singaporeans, and indeed many others too. Lee Kuan Yew was Singapore.” – Lee Hsien Loong
