YAYOI KUSAMA @ NATIONAL GALLERY SINGAPORE

So last week, together with Claire and Howei, we went to the National Gallery Singapore to visit the very popular Yayoi Kusama exhibition and at the same time, the Children's Biennale event which was also on exhibition there. It was also like my first time at the National Gallery since they opened 2 years ago so it was a new and exciting experience!!

National Gallery Singapore is Singapore's largest museum and showcases a huge collection of artworks, but we didn't really get to walk around the other permanent exhibits they have at the museum as our main purpose of our trip today was Yayoi Kusama but if there's a chance in the future I would love to explore the other parts of the gallery!

So when we reached the venue, THERE WAS A SUPER LONG QUEUE at the ticketing despite it being a weekday. The ticketing queue was about 2 rows so we had to queue for like about 15 mins? But it was all worth it as we get to have free tickets as students!!

We headed to the Yayoi Kusama exhibition at level 3, which is separated into three exhibition zones.

We skipped the Infinity Mirror Room and the Pumpkin Room as we needed to queue up to go into those rooms due to lack of space and they want to limit the amount of people going in these two installations at one time. But the queue for the Infinity Mirror Room was really insane because the room was in the middle of exhibit area B and it's just like a really small room but the queue went around the room SO IT WAS LIKE REALLY LONG.

The video installation 'Song Of A Manhattan Suicide Addict' was somewhat depressing and inspiring at the same time. She shared her depression experience through the song which was somewhat upsetting to hear.

'With All My Love For The Tulips, I Pray Forever' and 'Obliteration Room' was something different and brighter, with repeated patterns of dots, which actually mirrors Kusama's hallucinations she had when she was younger. The 'Obliteration Room' allowed visitors to stick the colourful stickers around the room anywhere and it was really literally full of colourful dots. Due to the high visitor numbers, the room was literally packed with dots all around LOL.

Check out my vlog for the trip to Yayoi Kusama here! :)
