REVIEW | THE K2 .

Starting a new #REVIEW series so check out the tag page for more future reviews which I might have! So a couple of days ago, I have finally finished watching arguably one of the best action drama of the year - 'The K2'! Super impressed and wow-ed by the quality of the drama ACTION SCENES AND ACTING WAS ON POINT. Unexpected twists and intense plot brought me on a roller coaster ride of emotions.

Honestly the first reason why I started this drama was because Yoona was starring in it so I would definitely watch it. But when the trailers and drama synopsis were released, I was lowkey excited for it because it sounds super interesting unlike the usual cliche love melodramas and Yoona's role actually sounds more interesting than her usual bubbly girl drama roles. And it was directed by the director behind Yuri's 'Neighbourhood Hero', another action drama which I enjoyed so I was quite looking forward to this drama.

Now that the drama has ended it's run, all I could say is that through this drama you get a glimpse of how human behaviour can be like when they have power (this is a political drama so there's a lot of power over assets and organisations), and how vulnerable one can be despite having almost everything in the world.

One of the characters which I liked from the drama, Choi Yoo Jin, the female antagonist, which I felt was wonderfully crafted and well depicted by Song Yoona. In fact she was literally the main star of the show as she holds powers which others could not get access to, even though she could literally control everyone, she still had a vulnerable side to her, she had a lot of things on her mind and did not get the love she wanted, which drew me to her and lowkey rooting for her despite her cruelty. She's smart, she's a business minded woman, but into the series she slowly developed a more humane side yet staying firm to her beliefs. Her final moments with her husband let her finally feel loved and cherished was a really touching and personally I felt she would be able to leave the world with no regrets.

I was really touched during the last episode and I even teared, especially when the Assemblyman Jang Se Joon decided to sacrifice himself and went back for Choi Yoo Jin and they embraced their final moment on Earth with a loving hug. I felt like it was his way of redeeming himself as he would definitely not be suited for a president role, but his exit from the show together with his wife was one of the most iconic scene of the series. Despite all the hatred and politics, love was shared in their final moments. It is indeed true when they say "love overpowers all evil and hatred"

And the main couple of the show, Kim Je Ha and Go Anna had a bittersweet relationship through the series, with Je Ha always trying to protect Anna, who's always used as a pawn or threatened with. One thing which I dislike was how the writer suddenly made Anna a pawn character which all the antagonist use to control the enemies and threaten them. I felt that Anna as a character had a lot of potential and growth from the first few episodes where she legitimately showed intense emotions and hatred for Yoo Jin as she tries to reunite with her father and find out the truth about her mother's death but then suddenly after falling in love with Je Ha and getting her identity exposed, she just became a girl who just wants to live happily ever after with Je Ha. Another loophole from the drama was that HOW CAN JE HA STILL FIGHT AND BEAT PEOPLE AFTER GETTING HURT FROM GUNSHOTS. He was indeed a superhero lol. But all the Je Ha-Anna moments was SUPER CUTE and a break from all the intense plot for us viewers to just sit back and be jealous of this adorable couple.

Also another plus point for this drama was the other supporting characters!! Each and everyone of the supporting character had their own personality and added spice to the drama with their own flavour, which I liked seeing how each of them contribute to the plot and how they are actually the ones who can affect the direction of the drama. And the OSTs were also ON POINT !

Nevertheless, I truly enjoyed this drama (I hope it was a little longer though) and would recommend anyone who wants to enjoy some actions scenes with intense political drama with unexpected plot twists with a tinge of emotional scenes in it. Having so much withdrawals now :(

Rating: 4/5

"My heart aches, I can’t breathe
I can’t touch you, who has gotten colder
No matter how much I try to reach you
You get farther away again
I’m spending my days in tears
Just blankly looking at you from behind
Everyday Everyday"
