All she did was to share where she was by using the Geotag filter on Snapchat, which unfortunately had the Rising Flag design which the time of posting coincides with National Liberation Day, which makes it even more unfortunate. It was a bad timing but she did removed her post after minutes.
However, people were already starting to hate her and saying she betrayed the country and should leave. There were even meaner comments asking her to die, which was really uncalled for.
Hence, she posted an apology, yet people were still not happy about it - saying it was insincere and vague, and that she should really be exiled from the industry for this incident.
She left her show, one of the shows which I like really much, and she went into reflection. Fans of hers know that she is someone who goes after perfection, and has a lot of expectations for herself. Any setbacks or problems she faces, she tries to work it around and improve herself even better the next time. A hardworking and genuine girl who worked hard to chase her dream - and with just an careless mistake, the tables turned.
Yes, she made a mistake but she apologized for it. I don't want to sound like I am defending her but I also feel she should have been more careful to post sensitive topics like this. However, it was really a harmless mistake which should not have received this kind of overwhelming hate. Why are people acting like she committed a huge crime like murder or arson. This hate is getting out of hand.
Media twisting the facts and even news broadcasters giving sarcastic remarks. Is this what professionalism really is? With the media being manipulated, the truth gets twisted and people only believe what they want to believe.
Is there really a need for such an outburst of hate and negativity?
If the president couldn't mention her own country's history properly on the same day, what makes it so special that the public's level of concern and anger towards the two parties are entire different? It's really ridiculous for the excessive anger the trivial issue has, which has been exaggerated and escalated into something huge.
After ten days, she managed to get the courage to write another more detailed apology to appease the public. It feels really upsetting to see this. If we feel unjust and upset at this situation, imagine the pain and fear she would have on herself.
Don't be too hard on yourself. Don't give up yet. There are still many people supporting you in everything you do, and always being there for you.
Promise to always smile - you deserve to be loved
